2026 Ford Super Duty Truck.

We’ve entered the second week of January, but Ford continues to receive year-end awards and accolades. For the fourth year in a row, Ford trucks was recognized by the North American Car, Utility, and Truck awards committee. This year, the 2024 Ford F-Series Super Duty took home the title of North America Truck of the Year.

To commemorate the moment, Sky Ford takes an in-depth look at the Super Duty’s latest model – a physical manifestation of the company’s “Built Ford Tough” mindset.

Power to the People

Approximately 96% of heavy-duty pickup owners utilize their truck’s towing capability. The Super Duty boasts the most eye-opening power specs we’ve seen from a Ford vehicle yet. With its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine paving the way, the 2024 Super Duty’s towing and hauling specs are as follows:

  • 40,000 pounds of towing.
  • 8,000 pounds of maximum available payload.
  • 500 horsepower.
  • 1,200 lb.-ft. of torque.

Designed to Shine

The Super Duty is designed to make your daily routine simpler and more convenient, both at your worksite and away from it. Pro Power Onboard lets you charge tools or other electronics via power outlets in the trunk bed – perfect for on-the-spot charging in remote locations. Meanwhile, integrated box-side steps and rear corner bumper steps are built extra wide, enabling you to comfortably climb to the interior or trunk bed.

The Super Duty exterior comes with a choice of seven distinct grille designs, each engineered to maximize cooling performance during hauling and towing. The muscular frame holds it all together, a light but durable, military-grade, aluminum-alloy shell. Bookending the body are powerful LED headlights and suave wraparound tail-lamps.

Brain in Addition to Brawn

The interior is outfitted with the latest modern amenities and technology. The 12-inch, customizable digital instrument cluster conveys important data in beautiful, high-resolution clarity. Together with the available Head-Up Display (HUD), information from driver assist features is projected onto your windshield, within your line of sight, so that you don’t need to take your eyes off the road for any sustained period of time.

The infotainment console runs on standard SYNC 4 technology, which manages all your Super Duty tech. With Sync 4, cloud-based connectivity throughout your Super Duty runs seamlessly. With FordPass Connect, drivers have access to a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, and the Super Duty also supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

And of course, Ford’s Co-Pilot360 technology offers the latest in increasingly important driver-assist features, including:

  • Pro Trailer Backup Assist
  • 360-Degree Camera System
  • BLIS
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Intersection Assist
  • Pre-Collision Assist
  • Pro Trailer Hitch Assist

Old Ford factory with parts and sections of old vehicles all around.

We all know the story by now. No, Henry Ford didn’t invent the automobile – he merely perfected it to such a degree that he might as well have.

That said, the founder of Ford Motor Company didn’t lack for game-changing inventions and innovations. From Henry Ford’s early twentieth century run that established modern practices of mass production and employee benefits, to newer applications such as blind spot technology, Ford has always been at the forefront of cutting-edge thinking.

Today, Sky Ford takes a deeper look at the five most consequential ways Ford has changed the landscape of the auto industry.

Moving Assembly Line & Mass Production

Automobile manufacturing would never be the same following Ford’s implementation of the moving assembly line. By using a conveyor belt, Ford assembly plants were able to efficiently move the product to the worker, rather than having employees scramble around facilities. After much trial and error, the process was perfected at the Highland Park assembly plant in 1913. Soon, new automobiles were being fully assembled in just 90 minutes.

In addition, Ford introduced standardization, which reduced production costs and increased efficiency by utilizing standardized parts that could be used on different models.

Model T

The original game-changer of the auto world. The Ford Model T was mass produced from 1908 to 1927. In that span, it established itself as the first mass-affordable automobile, resulting in car travel becoming available to middle-class America. Thanks to savings stemming from mass production, the average price of the Model T dropped from $780 in 1910 to $290 in 1924 – a truly staggering number when adjusted for inflation.

Thanks to the moving assembly line and its interchangeable parts, the Model T (also known as “the Tin Lizzie”) became the most ubiquitous vehicle in the world by an absurd margin. By the early 1920s, more than half of registered automobiles throughout the world were Fords, with over 15 million Model T’s built and sold during that span.

$5 Wage / 5-Day Workweek

When Henry Ford proposed in 1914 that all Ford employees be compensated at five dollars per workday, it sent a shock wave through the working community – and for good reason. Five dollars per day translates to $153 per day by today’s standards, after adjusting for inflation. That’s good for $19 an hour, well above 2023’s federal minimum wage of $7.25.

Then, in 1926, Ford introduced another now-standard workplace practice with the five-day workweek. Though it was driven by the expectation that worker productivity would increase if given more leisure time, Ford also believed giving workers more time to purchase and consume goods would be good for business. The idea passed the test of time; nearly a century later, we’re still looking at ways to further expand on Ford’s vision and bump the workweek down to four days…

The Tri-Motor Plane

One of the great “What If’s” in automotive history is the Ford Airplane Division, which shut down in 1933 due to the Great Depression. When Ford entered the aviation business during World War I, all they did was introduce the Tri-Motor Plane, an aptly-named, three motor plane that became the United States’ first successful passenger airliner.

You can’t help but wonder what Ford could have further accomplished in the aviation space if they hadn’t been forced to cut bait in the 30’s. Unfortunately, in this case, the sky was literally the limit.

Blind Spot Monitoring

For decades, drivers changed lanes with the aid of three rear mirrors and their own intuition. That changed with the introduction of Ford’s BLIS (Blind Spot Information System). BLIS is responsible for detecting vehicles in your blind spot and alerting you to their presence. It has since paved the way for a plethora of modern collision-avoidance technology.

While Volvo was technically the first manufacturer to introduce this feature to the public, Ford’s 1995 concept car, the GT90, was the first vehicle fitted with modern blind spot technology. Ford unveiled its version of blind spot monitoring to a mass audience in 2009 with the 2010 Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid.

Reinvent Your Driving Future

Ford continues to innovate to this day and are currently focused on expanding the reach of EV technology. With plans to put over 40 EVs and hybrid models on the road within the next few years, Ford’s next step seems to be the complete electrification of the majority of its fleet.

For instance, at Sky Ford you can check out the Mustang Mach-E, an electric SUV with an EPA-estimated range of 310 miles. But you don’t need to reinvent the wheel before you’re prepared to do so; our Service Center is here to handle all your brakebattery and oil change needs to keep your current ride humming into the new year and beyond.

Close-up of a car tire on a snowy road. The tire's tread is clearly visible, surrounded by fresh snow. The scene conveys a sense of winter travel.

Although we’re now well into December here in Center Point, temperatures have mercifully held above freezing for the time being, and winter precipitation has been minimal. With that in mind, this is an ideal opportunity to purchase a set of snow tires for the conditions that await us. As a great philosopher once said, “winter is coming.”

What’s the Difference Between Regular Tires and Winter Tires?

As you might have guessed, winter tires provide significantly more traction in ice, sleet, and snow. This is due to both the tire compound (i.e., rubber and silicone) and the tread patterns that allow for greater flexibility on slick surfaces. In fact, winter tires are designed to move water, as they melt the top layer of snow and ice when pressing down on it.

Conversely, “regular” or summer tires can actually freeze up during the winter months, leading to decreased performance, a higher chance of deflation, and other maladies that could lead you to a stop at our Service Center

How Do I Know What Winter Tires Are Right for My Vehicle?

Choosing the right winter tire relies largely upon choosing the right size. Conventional wisdom would tell you that wider tires equal better traction. But when driving through snow, narrower winter tires are often more effectively able to cut through to the ground. As always, when it comes to the exact size of your tires, it’s best to consult your owner’s manual.

Perhaps the most important thing to look for when purchasing winter tires is the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol. Think of this emblem as a seal of approval and badge of honor rolled into one. When it’s stamped on your tires, you know you’re good to go in the snow.

Are Winter Tires Worth It?

Quite simply, yes. We know it can be frustrating to have to open your wallet due to seasonal conditions. But with the increased risk that summer tires take on in winter months, there’s no guarantee you won’t be in the market for a new set of tires come spring anyway.

Plus, the old adage that “you can’t put a price on safety” remains with us for a reason. Holding off on buying winter tires is a gamble that puts both yourself and your loved ones as risk, and that’s not one worth taking.

Don’t Skid into the New Year

Purchasing tires can seem like a hassle regardless of the time of year, but the experience is made effortless with the tire professionals here at Sky Ford. When you come to us for your tire service needs, you’ll ensure that you soar – not skid – into 2024.

Santa in a stylish red suit leans on a red convertible filled with wrapped gifts and a small Christmas tree, creating a festive and cheerful vibe.

With Thanksgiving now in the rear-view, the holiday shopping season is officially upon us. While coming away with the perfect gift can be a challenge, it helps to narrow your choices to a single field of interest. For the avid car lover in your life, adding some gear to their garage is a surefire way to make their nice list this year. There are hundreds — if not thousands — of car accessories, tools, and cosmetic upgrades available, each a potential stocking stuffer for the gear head on your list. Courtesy of Sky Ford, here are eight great auto-themed gifts in 2023 that you should consider this holiday.

ThisWorx Car Vacuum Cleaner

Your vehicle deserves better than a cursory vacuum at the car wash every other month. With this handy, lightweight accessory, which comes with a 16-foot power cord, you can reach every minute crook and cranny of your car, keeping the interior fresh for yourself and your passengers year-round. It utilizes cyclonic force and powerful suction to completely clear dust and debris, and comes with three unique attachments: flathead, extendable, and brush nozzle.

Avid Power Cordless Tire Inflator

Your tires run a greater risk of deflation during the winter months, when every 10 degree drop outside could mean a loss of one or two PSI. Waiting for your low pressure light to alert you can be risky, as it can do so at any number of unfortunate moments. Instead, try to monitor your tires more regularly throughout the winter, and provide them with service frequently. Rather than waiting behind a line of cars at the gas station’s lone air pump, ask for this top-of-the-line portable tire inflator. With its 20V rechargeable Li-ion battery pack power supply, you won’t have to worry about deflated tires slowing down your holiday travels.

The Sno Brum

The easiest, most effective way to clear heavy snow and ice from your windshield this winter is with an assist from the Sno Brum. With its push-broom design, the 28-to-63-inch extended reach handle enables you to reach every inch of your vehicle. The Sno Brum is engineered for safe snow removal thanks to its Polyethylene, non-abrasive foam head, designed to clear delicate surfaces without leaving scratches. This winter, ensure that your morning commute doesn’t get derailed by the elements by keeping a Sno Brum in your car’s trunk.

ZMoon OBD2 Scanner Diagnostic Tool

Though our Service Center is at your beck and call year-round at Sky Ford, sometimes you want the ability to diagnose minor vehicular issues yourself before hauling your ride over to a garage for a professional opinion and its accompanying estimate. This convenient, entry-level diagnostic tool, which is directly powered by your car, allows you to gage battery voltage, EVAP, engine coolant temperature, and much more. You’ll stay on top of the pulse of your vehicle at all times and, when something goes awry, you’ll be able to quickly identify and address the issue.

Jump-N-Carry JNC325 Jump Starter

These jumper cables are some of the best you’ll find on the market when it comes to portability and accessibility. Needing just two buttons – power and override – the Jump-N-Carry JNC325 effortlessly charges most consumer vehicles. With a 24-inch cable length, it’s compact enough to store in your trunk, granting you the peace of mind that you won’t spend your holidays stuck on the side of the road.

Chemical Guys HOL169 Car Wash Kit

A home car wash kit is guaranteed to put any auto obsessive in the spirit, but finding a kit that’s both comprehensive and reasonably priced can be a challenge. This 16-piece set from Chemical Guys offers quantity without sacrificing quality. it includes a detailing bucket, wheel gel, glass cleaner, shine protectant, wet wax, a foam cannon, and much more. This holiday season, add a shiny swagger to your Ford with help from this thorough detailing kit.

Three NASCAR race cars speed around a track. The leading car is purple with "48 Ally" branding, followed by a red car and a blue car.

It all began in 1901, when Henry Ford stunned the automotive world. In a 10-lap race at the Detroit Driving Club in Michigan, the industrialist defeated the heavily favored, renowned auto designer Alexander Winton. In doing so, Ford’s new company announced itself as a racing line to be reckoned with – nearly a half-century before NASCAR had even assembled.

The Ford brand was there at NASCAR’s launch, and throughout the ensuing years, it compiled one of the circuit’s most storied track records. Sky Ford looks back at five pivotal days throughout Ford’s decorated NASCAR history:

June 25, 1950: Jimmy Florian wins first NASCAR race in a Ford vehicle.

Stock car racer Jimmy Florian’s win at the Dayton Raceway in 1950 was a milestone for two reasons: it marked the first NASCAR victory for a Ford vehicle… and Florian crossed the finish line half-naked.

The mechanic-turned-racer cruised past a slew of Oldsmobile drivers en route to capturing the checkered flag. Upon entering the winner’s circle, Florian emerged from his No. 27 Ford in just pants, shoes, and helmet, having torn off his shirt in the middle of the race due to the competitive fire raging inside him (…and also the day’s humidity). The feat earned him the nickname “Shirtless” Jimmy, and caused NASCAR to hastily implement a rule requiring its drivers to remain fully-clothed during races.

February 24, 1963: Massive underdog Tiny Lund wins first Daytona 500 for Ford.

Lund wasn’t even supposed to be behind the wheel of the No. 21 Galaxy 500 the day Ford captured its first Dayton 500. But the Wood Brothers racing team’s top driver, Marvin Panch, flipped his Maserati sports car during practice for a preliminary race at Daytona, suffering serious (though not life-threatening) burns as a result. One of the mechanics who rushed to rescue Panch from the burning wreckage was DeWayne Louis “Tiny” Lund.

From his hospital bed, Panch suggested that Lund serve as his replacement… even though the journeyman was winless in 132 career Cup Series events. Thankfully, the Wood Brothers team devised an expedited strategy that mitigated Lund’s weaknesses. It proved successful (albeit barely), as Lund completed the entire race in one set of tires and made one fewer pit stop than the competition.

February 20, 2000: Dale Jarrett wins Ford’s 10th Daytona 500.

Dale Jarrett spent time with various race teams throughout his illustrious, 24-year career – but his longest stint with the same crew was with Ford’s Robert Yates racing team. In 2000, he won his third Daytona 500 and second piloting a Ford, (he’d previously won the 1996 race in his second year on the Yates team). The win also represented Ford’s tenth total Daytona 500 victory, nearly 37 years after Tiny Lund brought home the inaugural win.

At the time, Jarrett became just the second driver to win multiple Daytona 500’s in a Ford. (Bill Elliott was a Ford winner in both 1985 and 1987). Matt Kenseth would later tie that mark with wins in both 2009 and 2012. But between those victories…

February 20, 2011: Trevor Bayne wins the Daytona 500 for Ford’s 600th NASCAR victory.

Talk about having yourself a day at the race track! Ford took all three podium spots at the 53rd running of the Daytona 500, as rookie Trevor Bayne, Carl Edwards, and David Gilliland finished the race 1-2-3, respectively. Bayne wasn’t even technically allowed to celebrate his win with champagne yet, as he became the youngest racer ever to win the Daytona 500, doing so just a day after his twentieth birthday. With the win, he also nabbed Ford their 600th NASCAR victory. Fair to say, a productive afternoon all around.

June 17, 2013: Greg Biffle wins the Quicken Loans 400, Ford’s 1000th NASCAR win.

Though the race itself was just one of many events in NASCAR’s Cup Series in 2013, Biffle’s win marked a major milestone for Ford: 1,000 combined victories in the Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series.

Fast forward a decade to the present day, where Ford continues to dominate the NASCAR circuit. The past two Cup Series champions – Joey Logano in 2022 and Ryan Blaney in 2023 – are both members of Team Penske, who fields Ford Mustangs.

At this point, you’ve probably come down with a case of racing fever – and the only cure is to get behind the wheel of a sleek, performance-first Ford vehicle today. Race on over to Sky Ford and check out our entire selection of new and used cars, trucks, and SUVs. If you’re already a driver, schedule your next service appointment with us. Whether you need new tiresbrakes, or an oil change, Sky Ford boasts the best pit crew in all of Linn County.

A person in a checkered shirt, wearing a pumpkin mask, playfully reaches out from a car window. The scene is humorous and Halloween-themed.

No one is really ever too old for Halloween. Are some of us too old to go door to door asking for candy? Yes, and you need to stop. But for the rest of us, Halloween can be a great opportunity to experiment, socialize, and rejuvenate the child within.

That said, all it takes is a single mistake in costume preparation to sabotage the entire experience. Avoid the pitfalls of last-minute costume planning, as no one respects the person showing up with a name tag plastered to their white button shirt in 2023. Courtesy of Sky Ford, here are seven Halloween costume ideas with an automotive twist.

Formula One Drivers

Formula One racing has seen its popularity skyrocket in the United States over the last few years, thanks in part to the revealing Netflix documentary series Drive To Survive. Another potential reason for the uptick in viewers? The racers just look cool. Part of the sport’s appeal is the flashy aesthetic element, encompassing everything from the brightly lit racetracks to the cars themselves. The drivers’ racing suits are no exception. Bonus points go to the true gear heads who show up at their party representing Team Red Bull, who are currently dominating the 2023 standings.

Safety notice: real Formula One racing overalls are flame retardant, but we’d advise holding off on testing to see if the same applies to your Formula One costume.

Lightning McQueen

Pixar was so captivated by the potential of an entirely sentient car universe that they didn’t stop at making Cars – they expanded its world with two sequels. Owen Wilson’s aspiring champ Lightning McQueen was the central protagonist of those movies, and his is the costume that will resonate with Pixar fans of a certain age.

If you’re accompanying your child to a Halloween party, you’ll instantly endear yourself to them for the evening. After all, who doesn’t love a champion, especially one decked out in such vibrant colors? Just make sure you don’t accidentally order Mater. Mater’s the worst

The Mystery Machine

Imagine the sheer number of masked sociopaths and would-be killers that would be roaming the streets this Halloween if it wasn’t for the reliable Mystery Machine engine. If you’re looking for a more retro take on the iconic pop culture vehicle costume, the Scooby gang’s vintage van is the way to go. (The Ghostbusters wagon is a less colorful but still acceptable option in a pinch).

Clearly, there are bonus points to be awarded if you bring a dog with you. Just don’t bring a dog that looks nothing like Scooby Doo; everyone knows there were no Jack Russell Terriers riding shotgun in the Mystery Machine, and you will get called out for it.

Speed Racer

Speed Racer’s 2008, Wachowski-helmed big-screen revival may have been a flop (despite its enduring, trippy visuals), but the character still makes for another inspired old-school choice thanks to his iconic yet relatively simple design. The white pants, blue collared shirt, and red scarf scream thrift store finds, and surely there’s an old bike helmet in your garage you can slap a red “M” on to. You’re guaranteed to be the hit of the party – at least amongst 1960’s anime enthusiasts.

As was the case with the Mystery Machine, you could go the extra mile and bring along a pet – in this case it would be a monkey to represent Speed’s chimpanzee companion Chim Chim. Just remember that, since Chim Chim isn’t nearly as ubiquitous to pop culture as Scooby-Doo is, you may wind up spending your night fielding a lot of questions.

Sweet Tooth

Did anyone actually watch Twisted Metal, Peacock’s unlikely revival of an all-but-dormant Sony PlayStation franchise? It’s difficult to say, since streaming services tend not to share little things like how popular shows are and how many people watch them. But we know one thing for certain; if you’re looking to unsettle an enormous amount of people this Halloween, it’s hard to go wrong with this costume.

In the game’s lore, Sweet Tooth was a maniacal clown who operated from his renovated ice cream truck. In the show, he’s a maniacal clown who operates from his renovated ice cream truck and is voiced by Bojack Horseman’s Will Arnett. Maybe know the vibe of the party you’re attending before you commit to this one.

Take Your Pick from Mad Max: Fury Road

Fury Road was one of the most acclaimed blockbusters of the last decade, and a large part of its appeal resided in its eccentric character designs. With a spinoff film in development, centered around Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, the madcap thriller has endured well into 2023.

You really can’t go wrong with any of the oil-stained Furiosa, Tom Hardy’s masked Max, Nicholas Hoult’s deathly pale War Boy Nux, or even Immortan Joe, who gives Sweet Tooth a run for his money in the bad vibes department. Maybe leave the flaming guitar at home though – safety precautions and all that.

Karl Benz

Though the origin of the first automobile continues to be a source of debate (some go as far as crediting Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century for the invention), the earliest credit is often awarded to the German Karl Benz, who applied for a patent in 1886 for his “vehicle powered by a gas engine.” (Why he didn’t patent his own mustache oil is anyone’s guess.)

The point is, if you attend a costume party dressed as Karl Benz and someone correctly identifies you, that person automatically wins the night.

You’ll be winning Halloween as well if you follow our guide. Whoever or whatever you choose to be this Fall, know that Sky Ford is here year-round for all your (real) vehicle needs. Check out our Model Showroom, and as winter approaches, make your preparations with an oil changebattery diagnosis, or any other service your vehicle requires, right here at Sky Ford.

A blue Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck travels on a road with a mountainous landscape in the background. The scene conveys a sense of adventure and freedom.

The age of the electric vehicle is upon us, and it has begun to flourish. This winter, Ford is upping the EV game in a big way with the arrival of the F-150 Lightning Flash. A new variant of Ford’s popular F-150 Lightning EV truck, the Lightning Flash will make its debut in January of 2024. Hitting the market at under $70,000, the F-150 Lightning Flash might as well be called the deluxe edition of the XLT; it includes an assortment of customer-recommended tech features, quality-of life additions, an expanded EPA-estimated range, and much more.

A Tech-Forward Model

The first thing you’ll notice about the Lightning Flash is the sheer amount of tech that’s loaded into it. Yet while it may appear to be more EV Batmobile than powertrain truck, the Lightning Flash prioritizes accessibility over all else. It’s a vehicle created through direct customer feedback, and its array of tech-forward features emphasizes its driver-first approach.

Take the inclusion of Ford BlueCruise, an advanced hands-free highway driving feature. The newest version, BlueCruise 1.2, includes Lane Change Assist, which allows for hands-free lane changing. It also includes In-Lane Repositioning, which automatically maintains the Lightning Flash’s distance from other vehicles while keeping it locked in its lane. BlueCruise can be implemented any time post-purchase, and a 90-day free trial is available to new drivers.

The Lightning Flash also comes equipped with one of the most powerful extended range batteries on the EV market, with an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles. With more charging options than ever before (see below) combined with this expanded mileage, the lopsided gas vs. charging debates of a decade ago have never felt more antiquated.

Tech-retary of the Interior

The F-150 Lightning’s tech-forward approach carries over into the interior of the vehicle. Drivers will have at their disposal a bevy of amenities, including:

  • A 15.5-inch LCD Capacitive Touchscreen with Swipe Capability.
  • A B&O® Sound System with HD Radio™ that includes eight speakers and a subwoofer.
  • Push-Button Start, Approach Detection, & a SecuriCode® Keyless Entry Keypad.
  • A wireless charging pad.

In addition, a heat pump helps optimize climate control by implementing more efficient energy consumption. We’d call it a well-oiled machine – except in the case of this EV powerhouse, oil doesn’t factor into the equation.

Charging Into the Future

Regardless of whether the Lightning Flash is primarily charged at home or whilst traveling, there is no shortage of charging possibilities.

Ford EV users have access to the expansive BlueOval Charge Network, the largest public charging system in North America. Plus, starting in Spring 2024, Lightning users will be able to utilize over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers.

Home charging is as simple as powering any of your other devices. An overnight charge can be done using the Ford Charge Station Pro. If you’re looking for an additional power boost up to 80 amps, the Ford Connected Charge Station is available for purchase as well.

Your Electric Experience Awaits

A clear evolution on the XLT line, the F-150 Lightning Flash is a high-tech, driver-friendly refinement that is as much a tech-forward experience as it is a reliable EV truck.

While we await its arrival, it’s still the perfect time to check out our entire inventory of new EVs and hybrids, including the original F-150 Lightning, at Sky Ford in Center Point. Whether you’re looking for a new or used vehicle, service or parts, Sky Ford is here for all your automotive needs this winter.

A mechanic in blue coveralls installs a car battery under the hood, focusing on the task. The scene conveys a professional, hands-on approach.

Has your car battery ever died on you? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! It’s a common issue that can happen to anyone. But here’s the good news: jump-starting your car is a simple process that can save you from the hassle of calling a tow truck or mechanic. In this blog, we’re going to guide you through the steps to jump-start your car safely and easily. So let’s dive in!

Step 1: Check Your Battery

Before we get started, take a moment to inspect your battery. Make sure it’s properly attached and free of any corrosion or leaks. These issues can cause your battery to fail, so it’s important to address them before attempting to jump-start your car.

Step 2: Gather Your Tools

Now let’s gather the tools you’ll need to jump-start your car. You’ll want to have a set of jumper cables and a working car with a charged battery. Jumper cables are typically black and red with clamps on both ends, and you can easily find them at your local auto parts store or right here at Sky Ford. Once you have everything ready, park the working car close enough to your vehicle so that you can easily attach the jumper cables to both batteries.

Step 3: Attach the Cables

Before we start attaching the cables, make sure both cars are turned off. Now, locate the positive and negative battery terminals on each car. These terminals are usually color-coded and labeled with a plus (+) or minus (-) sign.

Start by attaching one end of the positive (+) cable (usually red) to the dead battery’s positive terminal. Then, do the same for the support car’s positive terminal. Next, take one end of the negative (-) cable (usually black) and attach it to the good battery’s negative terminal. Finally, attach the other end of the negative cable to the dead car’s negative battery terminal or an unpainted piece of metal on the car.

Step 4: Start the Working Car and Wait

Now it’s time to fire up the working car! Start it up and let it run for about 15 to 20 minutes. As the working car runs, its charging system will start to charge the dead battery on your vehicle.

Step 5: Try Starting Your Car

After waiting for 15 to 20 minutes, give starting your own car a shot. If it starts up, congratulations! You’ve successfully jump-started your vehicle! Now, let’s disconnect the cables in the opposite order we connected them. Remember to be careful not to touch the metal parts of the cables together as you remove them. Start by removing the negative (-) cable from your car’s battery, followed by the negative cable from the support car’s battery. Then, do the same for the positive (+) cable on each vehicle.

And just like that, you’re done! Wasn’t that easy?

Step 6: If Your Car Doesn’t Start

In the rare event that your car still doesn’t start, don’t worry. Just repeat the process and give it another try. If it still doesn’t work, it might be time to consider getting a new battery or having your car inspected by a mechanic at Sky Ford.

Final Thoughts

Jump-starting your car is not only easy, but it’s also a practical skill that every driver should know. However, prevention is always better than cure. Remember to turn off all lights and electronics in your car when the engine is not running to prevent your battery from draining. Regularly maintaining your battery by cleaning it and checking for leaks or corrosion will also help prolong its lifespan.

With the right tools and knowledge, knowing how to jump-start a vehicle can quickly put you back on the road and save you from a costly tow truck call. Just remember to handle jumper cables with caution, as they contain electricity that can be dangerous if not used correctly. Follow these steps, and you’ll be more than ready to jump-start your car the next time your battery dies on you. Happy driving!

Driving is an exciting milestone in life, but it can also be intimidating, especially for new drivers. Navigating the roads as a beginner involves a lot of responsibility, but with proper guidance, it can be a lot easier and more secure. In this blog, we will focus on five tips that can help new drivers stay safe and confident on the road.

Tip 1: Master the Basics

Before hitting the road, it is essential to understand the fundamental rules of driving. Start by reviewing your state’s driver’s manual or take an approved driver’s education course. This will help you learn the rules of the road and gain a better understanding of road signs, speed limits, and traffic laws. Knowing the basics ensures that you can navigate the roads with confidence and safety.

To further master the basics and gain a strong foundation in driving, it is important to practice frequently in various conditions. Make sure to drive in different weather conditions, such as rain or snow, and during different times of day. Additionally, practice on roads with varying speed limits and traffic levels. This will help you become comfortable behind the wheel and stay safe on the road.

Tip 2: Keep Your Car Maintained

Regular car maintenance is crucial for a vehicle’s safe operation. Keeping up with oil changes, brakes, and tire rotations are necessary for ensuring that the car is in proper working order. Having a reliable vehicle also means reducing the chance of costly and dangerous breakdowns.

Having a reliable car is also essential for avoiding any unwanted incidents on the road. Be sure to check your fluids (oil, coolant, brake, and transmission) regularly and top them off if needed. Make sure to have your brakes inspected occasionally, as well as inspect the car’s tires for proper inflation levels and tread wear.

Tip 3: Avoid Distractions

Distractions while driving are dangerous, irresponsible, and can lead to accidents. Keep your phone on silent and out of reach while driving. If you need to use your phone, pull over to a safe spot to take the call or reply to a text message. Additionally, avoid eating, smoking, grooming, or engaging in other distracting activities while behind the wheel.

In order to reduce distractions while driving, it is important to minimize the number of passengers in the car. Having fewer passengers in the vehicle reduces the chances of conversations or other interactions that could take your focus away from driving. Additionally, avoid programming GPS devices or changing radio stations while driving, as these activities require visual and mental attention.

Tip 4: Don’t Tailgate

Maintaining a safe distance between your car and the vehicle in front is crucial for a driver’s safety. The recommended following distance is three to four seconds between cars. This ample time will allow you to avoid a collision if the vehicle in front makes any sudden stops or turns.

Tailgating can be dangerous and should always be avoided. Not only can it lead to rear-end collisions, but it can also cause road rage from the driver in front. Additionally, tailgating restricts vision and forces drivers to make quick decisions in order to avoid a collision.

Tip 5: Obey All Traffic Rules

Driving safely and responsibly involves obeying all traffic rules and laws, including stop signs, traffic signals, and posted speed limits. Remember, breaking the rules puts not only your safety but also the safety of other road users at risk.

When driving, always be aware of the speed limit and the posted signs to ensure that you stay within the laws. Following the speed limit helps prevent speeding tickets and keeps you from putting yourself and other drivers at risk. Additionally, be mindful of intersections and obey any traffic signals, such as stop lights or yield signs. These traffic signals are there to keep you and other drivers safe on the road.

Get Out and Drive — Safely!

In conclusion, as a new driver, it is crucial to remain vigilant, patient, and adhere to basic traffic rules. Regular maintenance of your car, avoiding distractions, and maintaining a safe following distance are all essential practices to help ensure safe driving. Remember to never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, always wear your seat belt, and enjoy the ride. Following these five tips will make you a more confident and responsible driver.

With spring right around the corner now is the best time to start prepping your car for warmer weather. Whether you’re washing off a winter worth of salt and dirt or you’re finally bringing the summer car out of your garage, some spring cleaning is a great way to increase the life of your vehicle.

If you’re a DIY’er looking to get their ride ready for spring, this is one list of tips and tricks you won’t want to miss.

Wash it Down

Spring is the perfect time to give your car the much-needed love it deserves. To start, grab some soap, water and a lint-free chamois cloth. Once you have your supplies, start scrubbing away any winter grime, dust or debris. Don’t forget to get into all of those nooks, crannies and hard-to-reach areas.

Now that you’re done with the soap and water stage, give the car a quick once-over before wiping it down with your chamois cloth. Using a lint-free chamois cloth instead of air drying helps avoid any unwanted water spots on your vehicle.

If you don’t have much time or are looking for an easier method, an automatic car wash is a good option to consider. With just a few minutes of your time an automatic car wash will have your car ready for Spring in no time.

Check Your Tires

As spring approaches, it’s time to start checking the air pressure and tread depth of your tires. Having tires with solid tread depth and the proper air pressure not only keeps you safe, but it also ensures peak performance and fuel economy.

Tire air pressure can drop with temperature changes or from sitting for a long time. So, the first step is to ensure those air levels are set to your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. You typically can find this information on the inside of your driver’s side door jam.

Next, you’ll want to check your tread depth. While there are a few methods of checking this at home, we always recommend having one of our certified technicians do this for you. This ensures that the tread depth reading is accurate so don’t have to buy tires before they’re ready to be replaced.

Inspect the Battery

Spring is an important time to inspect the battery of your car to ensure it is fully operational. A battery that has sat for a long time or been exposed to cold weather for long periods of time may not be as strong as it once was. That’s why we recommend testing your battery or having it tested as you begin to prepare your vehicle for spring.

It’s also wise to have a technician check your alternator and charging system annually. This will ensure that your battery is being properly charged which maximizes its lifespan. If your charging system or alternator aren’t functioning properly, it’s better to find that out ahead of time before you end up stranded.

Making sure your battery is ready for spring will go a long way in helping you stay safe and worry-free on the roads this season. You can have your alternator, battery and charging system checked by one of our certified technicians here at Sky Ford. All you have to do is schedule an appointment online or call us today!

Change the Oil

One of the oldest pieces of car maintenance advice to ever exist, changing your oil is essential no matter what season it is. However, after a long winter or a prolonged period of garage storage, it is even more important to check and/or change the oil in your vehicle. This can help catch issues such as degraded oil or finding metal shavings in the oil pan.

If you don’t have the time or space to check your oil, don’t worry, our service center is full of certified technicians who can help. At Sky Ford, we can check and replace your oil and filter, as well as perform a variety of other maintenance and repair services. All you have to do is call for an appointment or schedule your service online today!

Protect Your Paint

Preparing your car for the spring season is an important part of vehicle maintenance, and paint protection should be a top priority. Investing in paint protection film or a ceramic coating can help protect against scratches, dirt and other things that can cause paint damage over time.

Paint protection film acts as a physical barrier to any debris coming in contact with your paint, while ceramic coatings act as an extra layer on top of your paint that wears better against damage. Both are excellent options for protecting your car’s paint from the elements and road debris.
